We moved into a duplex in Keller Texas back on October 1st 2009. We thought it was going to be a great place to live. It had a fabulous deck on the side of the house, it is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with a 2 car garage that we pay $795 per month for. Well shortly after moving it, we started have a LOAD of problems, seemed like one problem after another! I'm going to tell you all about it. And I would love to hear feedback about it.
First of all, when we were moving in the realtor that showed us the house, told me we could pay the pet deposit out, because it was really expensive, and we have one dog. I told her great, I gave her a money order for the house deposit, part of the pet deposit and the portion of the rent that was due. She then gave me some paper work to fill out, i had to write anything down that we found wrong with the house down on. It was called an inventory sheet. It's supposed to protect me from having to pay for things that were already wrong with the house. Well I started going over the house with a fine tooth comb while we were moving everthing in. I had a pretty big list compiled. I worked on it in a hurry because at the top of the list it says we only have 5 days to turn it in. Or it is void. So I worked hard to make sure I got everything written down.
Well, the only person I had to contact was the realtor who took my money and my signature on the lease agreement. I didn't even have a copy of the lease agreement in my hand yet. It dawned on me, I don't even know who I'm renting this house from. But I didn't think it was a big deal. Well 3 days had gone by and I thought I had everything written down on the inventory list, so I called the realtor and told her I was finished with it. She said she'd come by that evening to get the list. Well she never showed up. The next evening was the 4th day. I called her again and she said "sorry' she was busy and didnt' get to come by the day before and that she would be by that evening. Well she still didnt' show up. On the 5 day I was about to panic because I didnt' want to be responsible for everthing on that list. I called her again but she didn't answer. I left her a voice mail. She called me back and said it was no big deal, that she'd get to it eventually. I was NOT happy about that!
Well a few more days more like 2 weeks go by and I realized I still didn't know who I was renting from. I did not have a copy of our lease agreement. I had no company name, or no address to send the rent to or anything. I call the realtor, she didn't answer (and I still haven't turned in the inventory sheet) So I left her a message. I told her that our first months rent was due in a few days and I don't know who to pay it to. I also told her I needed the copy of the lease agreement. She did not return my call. I sent her a text message, she did not reply. I'm starting to panic because the rent was due, the inventory sheet is way past due, and i did not have a copy of the lease! We are unpacking, making this house our home, hanging pictures, throwing away boxes and I don't know what to do?!?!
Then all of a sudden I check the mail and there was a letter from the management company. YAY! I know who to pay rent to now. I opened this letter and was shocked to find out that we were being EVICTED and had to be out in less than 24 hours. I absolutely freaked out!!! We were being evicted because we still owed money on the pet deposit. OMG!!! the realtor told me we could pay it out! I called the phone number at the top of the letter and they were extremely rude and told me TUFF! I should have had it on my lease agreement. I told her "well I agree, but I can't argue that with you, because I don't have a COPY of the lease agreement" I have no idea what is or isn't on it. I didn't even know who to pay the rent to tomorrow because I didn't have any paper work at all. Your realtor absolutely didnt' care and totally dropped the ball. All she was interested in was getting this house rented and then she didnt' care at all! I had to put up the biggest fight of my life to get them to let us stay in the house and pay out the pet agreement like we had agreed upon.
