Happy New Year Quotes!

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. ~Oprah Winfrey

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. ~Bill Vaughan

Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits. ~Author Unknown

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. ~Author Unknown

New Year's Day is every man's birthday. ~Charles Lamb

New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights. ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

The proper behavior all through the holiday season is to be drunk. This drunkenness culminates on New Year's Eve, when you get so drunk you kiss the person you're married to. ~P.J. O'Rourke

I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you? Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second. ~Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones's Diary

Tyler cops replace stolen presents

This story really touched my heart. I am writing it exactly as it was written and published by the Associated Press on 12/16/09.

TYLER, Texas — Thieves who ransacked a house in Tyler were so thorough that they even stole the family dog's treats.

Some police officers who responded to the burglary took on the spirit of the season and used their own money to buy replacement Christmas presents.
Police are seeking the burglars who broke into the home of Erika Velazquez and her family, stealing her husband's wedding ring, electronics and presents for her 6-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son.
Velazquez on Tuesday told the Tyler Morning Telegraph that her daughter, Estefanie, asked if police would go door to door to find the stolen gifts.
The investigating officers returned later with presents they purchased for the youngsters.
Tyler Police Chief Gary Swindle says he's proud of his officers and "stories like this sure makes Christmas a whole lot better."

Keller TX Boy Gets Early Christmas Wish

Here is a heart felt story from my hometown that absolutely tugged at my heart strings. I don't know this young man but I feel pain in my heart that I'm sure he and his Family must feel magnified by thousands.
I couldn't imagine watching my child suffer throughout his young life like these folks have.  I saw this on Facebook, it was originally written by FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21), I read it and just wanted to to share it with everyone.

Keller Boy Gets Early Christmas Wish
Chase Autrey's family worries he might not make it to Christmas. So Thursday night Christmas made it to him.
Chase has Cystic Fibrosis, making it increasingly difficult for him to breathe because of a sticky mucus build-up in his lungs. He's been in and out of Cook Children's Hospital since he was a toddler. It's a been a battle he now appears to be losing.

Chase's mother, Clover Autrey said, "His body's breaking down. It just has deteriorated to the point they're not sure he's got that much time left." They thought Chase might leave them last night. But he bounced back.

Science fiction and fantasy have brought the 14-year-old relief from his reality. He's a big fan of the Fablehaven book series. But Chase might not be around for book five which is due out in March. His mother says Chase knows his prognosis and is handling it bravely. "I think he's more upset to see us upset," she said.

But back in Utah, there's another surprise waiting for Chase which has also been arranged by the Wish With Wings foundation. It's a call from the author of the Fablehaven book series, Brandon Mull. Chase responds to call with a "HOLY CRAP!!!" He's obviously delighted. Mull then shared the secrets of book five with him.

His nurses, watching the scene unfold can not hide their own smiles and tears of joy. "I'm just tearful and joyful that someone can actually make him that happy just calling on the phone," his nurse Mel Carroll said.

His parents were grateful for a diversion for their son who has been in so much pain. "He's a great kid and it was neat to see him enjoy himself and be the focus of attention in a good way versus you know all the adverse affects of what he's been going through lately." Pat Autrey said.

Chase would love to read the fifth book in the Fablehaven book series when it comes out next March. But for now, he and his family are taking life day by day.

Art!!

I love making my jewelry and I will keep doing so, but now I'm also going to try my hand at painting with watercolors. So for the past few days I've been playing around with painting landscapes. I'm going to attach two paintings to this post that I've finished already. Last night I stayed up till after 1:00 am painting a portrait of my youngest son Justin, from looking at a photograph of him. I try to stay patient with myself but I could tell right away that I'm a little rusty at this watercolor painting thing. I did have some frutstrations trying to make shadows and light areas and stuff. Trying to get his eye's in the right place, his smile just right and such. You know I've never been really good at this, though I've never really tried but....I'm already trying portraits of people???? What am I crazy??? Yes just a little. Oh well ya gotta start some where right? I'll keep working on his portrait and hope it gets better every day.  I did take some pictures of my landscape and I'll attach them to this blog so you can see where I'm at with watercolors. Now just remember when you look at them......I am noooooo professional nor do I claim to be. I'm just getting started. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks though (just please be kind:) ~Sharon

Sterling Silver

I am trying my hand at making Sterling Silver Jewelry. My wonderful son Brandon purchased me a Precious Metal Clay (PMC3) Kit. The kit comes with silver clay, tools and a hot pot. I made my first Silver Ring today YAY! It was fun but a bit nerve wracking. Fun playing with the clay and knowing that it was going to turn into beautiful silver when I was done, but nerve wracking because they say the clay dries really fast so you can't mess with it for very long. Well they were right! I almost messed with it too long. I could feel it drying while I was working with it. Thankfully I managed to make a pretty silver band. I scratched my name in the band because I thought it would look cool, but it really didn't, so you can't see my name in the pic, it's on the other side. I see it as all trial and error, I want to become really good with this stuff so I can sell it to everyone. But for now I'm still a little shell shocked and nervous about making another one, I mean after all this clay is pretty expensive, I really don't want to mess it up and have a big silver glob of nothing.  So what I think I'm going to do is order the spray they sell to keep the clay moist. And I think I'll buy the silver clay paste or syring they sell so I can make things to attach to the jewelry, like silver flowers, leaves and such. Things to make my jewelry a little ornate. I can't wait to get really good with this stuff because I am sooooo excited about adding silver jewelry to my store on Etsy. I hope you all visit, say hi and maybe purchased something that I've poured lots of love, sweet and tears on. And stay posted....I will post my progress with PMC!

Naughty But Nice

This has got to be one of the best Christmas Bangles I've ever made:) I think it's cute, sassy and funny. And it's for sale at my Etsy store. And what a great way to welcome in Christmas. I always get attention when wearing this Bangle to the store. The cashier always has to take a closer look and then laughs at what it says. I just love it.

Work, work, work!

I am having such fun making my jewelry that it really doesn't feel like work. Today I am making some really cute Bangles. One is a Bangle I'm sure teachers will love. It's bright yellow with the words "School Days" on it. And I have created another Halloween Bangle. It's soooo cute! It's orange and has different Halloween words all around it. Like- "Boo, Trick or Treat, and Happy Halloween". I can't wait for them to set up and cure.
Oh and today is my first day to start working on Cuff Links. I am making some Cuff Links for my son's business. He's works in the oil and gas field. So he asked me to make some Oil Derrick Cuff Links. I'm trying to figure out how to make the Oil Derricks. And I haven't quit figured it out yet, so this will be an experiment.
I'm also trying to make Halloween Beads. I guess we'll see how they turn out tomorrow.
Ok...It's now time to get back to work:)

Halloween!

How fun is Halloween? I love it! I absolutely love the Holidays:) I can't wait to get them started. Halloween just seems to kick it all off. I am starting to work on Halloween Jewely now and am coming up with some great ideas. I love making Halloween Bangles. One of those bangles I call "BOO" is so cute because it has a 3D effect. Another one is simply and pretty because it has a multy colored plaid and a simple little pumpkin with the words "Halloween". I love it. I've also created a brooch to wear. I thought teachers might really like the brooch. I'm adding some pics with this article, so you can see what I mean. Don't forget to visit my Etsy Store where you can purchase them and see them for yourselves in person.

Jewelry!!!

I have been busy, busy, busy creating my pretty bangles and a few other things. I think I'm getting better at it every day. My bracelets are getting prettier every day. I finished this gorgeous green and blue bangle bracelet last night and took it out of its mold this morning. Clean it up and wore it with my green and blue sundress. Funny because it matched my dress exactly, my son even asked if I made it that way on purpose and I really didn't. I just thought it would be pretty so I made it was a happy accident that it turned out to match. It's for sale, I can always make more just like it for myself. I hope everyone who reads this blog, takes a look at my jewelry on Etsy:)

YAY My Birthday:)

Well it was my Birthday today! I have turned the big 45...OUCH! That stings a little bit. I know that the people older than me think I'm just a baby. I've actually heard that several times this week. I don't feel like a baby....thats for sure.
I had a really good day today. I first woke up to my youngest son Justin telling me Happy Birthday in a big happy voice:). Then my phone started ringing with family calling to tell me Happy Birthday. It's funny because like a race to see who can call me first lol. Speaking of that....I was up late last night, so late that at 12:05am I sent my twin sister a Happy Birthday wish on her Facebook page. It fealt good to be the first one to do that on our actual Birthday. I wish I could have been with her today, but she lives in Austin, several hours away. So I had to settle for a phone call. It sounds like she had a good birthday with her kids and grandkids. I had a wonderful birthday with my two son's and their girlfriends. I spent most of the day just chill'n with my youngest son Justin. And in the evening we all went to the Macaroni Grill and I was treated to a wonderful dinner with my two favorite men and their beautiful girlfriends. I also received a wonderful gift from my son Brandon. He gave me a picture viewer. You know the electronic picture frame that changes pictures. I just love it. I was shocked to find out it also has music and video capabilities. I never ever knew they came with those features! I was pleasantly pleased. This was a wonderful Birthday that I will always remember fondly. I love my son's....You guys are AWESOME!

Still hurt!!!

Ok this hurt hand thing is really wearing me down. Typing with one finger is also annoying. I hate to complain but it seems like I'm getting really good at it lately. Funny thing is...complaining seems to make my hand feel better! Isn't that strange? When my hand is really hurting and someone is around me, I get very verbal about it. I don't know why that is?!? Is it because I'm looking for simpathy? I don't think so. Is it because I just want everyone to know that I'm in pain? I don't think that's it either. I really think that being verbal about the pain some how relieves the pain a little. I almost always feel a little relief almost emediatly. Isn't that the wierdest thing? If anybody out there reading this blog has any input on this, go ahead and give me your thoughts. And no I don't want to hear "your just a big baby" either. I mean real honest to goodness information on how being verbal about pain may actually be psychosymatically helping me some how to release some of the pain. I think it would be interesting to hear some real opinions on this matter. Meanwhile I guess my family and friends will just have to put up with my whining:)

My Injury!!!

OK I thought I would be well by now! But apparently I was mistaken. I am just as injured now as I was when this whole thing started. I have done everything the doctor has asked of me. I keep my hand taped up and try not to use it. It's hard but I'm training myself to be left handed. This sucks very badly. I would like to go back to work but I just don't think that's possible. I cannot use my right hand ready for use. Oh well, I guess I'll give therapy a try, hopefully that will fix it!!!

I'm injured:(

OH NO! I have an injury. I have been having problems with my fingers on my right hand an am now off of work for 2 weeks. Seems I have tendonitits in my fingers. This Sucks because I love my job, but the Doctor seems to think I may not be able to do my job anymore. She said I may have to find a new line of work. This is so upsetting because I really really love what I do. Soooooo I had better start finding other things I love to do just in case I can't go on with this. One thing I'm trying is photography. I seem to have a knack for it. As soon as Shutterbug.com approves my photos you can see them by picking one of the links at the bottom of this article. Let me know what you think:)

Mothers Day!

I just want to tell all the Mom's out there- "HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!"
I had a great Mothers day. I got chocolate pie and beautiful flowers from both my sons. My youngest son Justin and his girlfriend Amanda gave me the chocolate pie (because they heard me mention that I wanted to make one the night before) and they gave me a really funny card. My oldest son Brandon and his girlfriend Amber gave me some gorgeous flowers. Of course they didn't have to buy me anything. Just their love is good enough for me. They were and absolute joy to raise and they make me the happiest Mom just being themselves. Thank God for wonderful sons:)

Prom!

My son and his girlfriend are at prom tonight. She's a senior this year so there's an exciting buzz around my house and it was fun watching her get all prettied up and ready for the big night. My son just shaved his face, threw some gel in his hair and slipped on his tux 30 minutes before they had to leave and he looked gorgeous(must be nice!) It pretty much took her all day to get ready. And she started early this morning by going to have her hair styled and her makeup done. And she started everything before I even got out of bed this morning! Actually she started preparing weeks ago with the picking out the dress, shoes, hair accessoried, jewelry, wrist corsage and all the other little details.
I was surprised a few weeks ago when she asked me if I would take her senior pics (not cap and gown) at the Botanical Gardens. I've never taken pics for a special occasion. Certainly not pics that will need preperation with posing, light and all that stuff. I told her that I would, but not to expect much out of me because I am NOT a photographer by any means. I was a little worried that she was expecting these perfect pics to magically appear in her camera. But she assured me she was going to love whatever I did. So off we went. Thankfully my son (her boyfriend) went a long to help her pose and to help me figure out good angles. I really don't think my pics would have turned out very good if it wasn't for him. Who knew he had photography in his blood?!?! The Botanical Gardens were gorgeous that day, we walked around posing and taking pics of her and my son. Maybe a half hour after we arrived other people started showing up in droves wearing prom dresses and tuxes and photographers with there fancy big cameras to the garden. We had a hard time keeping them out of our pics and us keeping out of theirs. But we managed. One thing I thought was smart was she took a bag of clothes and accessories with her so she could change in between shots so as not to have all the pics with her in the same clothes. She changed in my car.
Well I think the pics turned out amazingly well after her and I got home that evening we edited them with a special program she new about. And I do believe I've fallen in love with her little digital camera. I had no idea a little camera like that could work so well.
Well here you go, I'm adding some of the pics to this blogg. We haven't edited all of them yet. I'll add more to my blogg as they're available.

Swine Flu???

My eyes are watering, my throat hurts a little, and I have a curly tail...should I be worried?
Seriously this swine flu thing, aka H1N1 virus has me a little worried! I've been watching the news and reading the paper and I'm really concerned about our safety. Thank goodness I don't have school aged children or else I'd really be freaking out. But still, I don't want any of my loved ones to catch this thing. My youngest sons girlfriend is still in high school and she comes straight over to our house when she gets out of school. Can she bring it to us? I kind of wish they'd close her school district just to be safe. Her school borders the Fort Worth School district that closed every school down for almost 2 weeks. I don't think that virus avoids crossing borders or won't avoid jumping from school district to school district. Some people think that the Health Dept is jumping the gun by closing schools and canceling large events in the area, but I think they are just trying to nip this fast moving virus in the bud. If people keep congregating and continue passing it around, hundreds of people could die. I think It's better to be safe than sorry. So I hope everybody pays attention to the news and does what they advise. Lets stop this thing NOW!

Money Stresses me out....or rather the lack there of!

I'm off work today, not by choice but my Bosses great idea. Funny I don't remember signing up for a part time job...He said there's nothing for me to do. He needs to get the survey guys out in the field today to survey some topo so I can have something to do tomorrow on my AutoCAD. That's what I do, AutoCAD. I'm an AutoCAD Drafter for a Survey Company. I'm not very happy about missing a day of work. Don't get me wrong it's nice to relax a bit. But how can I relax? I mean really relax? But I had to use a vacation day or not get paid. And I'm not in any position financially to not get paid for a full day of work. Now I sit at home looking at the damn computer trying to figure out how I can make extra money because my regular job isn't paying the bills. Not that I'm high maintenance or anything. I actually have cheap bills and still can't survive half the time and ya know it's always stressful to be broke but it's worse to be broke and have time on your hands to worry about it and not feel like your doing anything at all to contribute to putting your bank account in the blue instead of the red. This sucks! Being broke really really sucks. I have never known and probably never will know how it feels to always have money in the bank. To actually knows what it feels like for my money to last more than just payday to payday and hell my money never lasts that long anyway. I'm usually broke way before next payday. I've had to take vacation days not to long ago just because I didn't have the money to put gas in my car to make it to work. Then when payday came around I had to hold my breath and pray my car made it to work and then to the bank to cash my check. Isn't that sad??? I had to stay home on a Wednesday and Thursday then coast to work on and empty tank Friday just to get my paycheck. Oh how I wish I could feel safe and secure with lots of money in the bank. I guess that's just about everyones dream. I'm probably not the exception here. But this is my blog so I get to whine if I want to lol. Just saying......wouldn't it be nice to have your bills come automatically out of your bank every month and just reconcile your checkbook at the end of the month without worrying if you have the money in the bank to cover them? My dream is to have that and not have to work for someone else. Maybe work for myself over the internet and own a large motorhome to travel in and just to my work while I'm on the road traveling from state to state. Stopping at interesting places staying for a while and then moving on to the next. Hopefully my son's and their girlfriends would be with me- I'd hate to be without my sons. It's more fun to share wonderful events with the people you love. I wonder if there's anyone out there in cyber space that gets to do things like this and if they do, what do they do for a living so that they can afford such luxeries. what can I do on the net to afford such luxuries???? I'd love to hear some stories of riches at least then I can feel good for other people.

YAWWWWWNNNN.....rainy days make me sleepy

All weekend we had gorgeous weather in my hometown, it was warm and sunny just beautiful. So I did a little shopping ran a few errands, but mostly stayed hom just piddling, cleaning and relaxing. The weekend seemed to go by very quickly (unfortunately).
Monday morning- Yuck, the alarm went off way to early. I jumped up, looked at it as if it was crazy for waking me up so damn early! What the heck was it thinking???
Oh well, I climbed out of bed rubbed my eyes and began the weekday ritual of getting ready for work with the news playing on the tv. "They're saying we're in for some bad weather today I had better hurry up" I hate driving in the rain and everybody else acts like they're driving on ice. Talk about road rage OUCH! I made it to work ok and on time with with little problems. Now I sit at my desk listening to the thunder and rain outside. Man I'd like to be curled up at home back sleeping in my nice cozy bed. But unfortunately they won't pay me for that. Am I the only one that would rather it be raining on the weekend so I can be lazy in bed all day?

Forgetting something?

I remember back when I was really young....oh say....16,17, maybe even a little older, I was a very forgetfull youth. Eventually people started to pick on me for my forgetfulness. I really did hate that quality about myself so I started thinking of how to fix it. After all I didn't want to be known by everyone as that forgetfull girl "she can't remember anything". I wanted to be know for the great person I thought I was. Well I gave my flaw a lot of thought and realized there were things I could do to change this habit. I heard that if I looked people in the eye when they spoke and even told me their name that I could remember it. I works! Who knew that if you pay attention to someone when they speak and look them in the eye, you'll actually remember what they say. I also found that keeping my car keys in my hand and looking at them before I shut the door will keep me from locking my keys in the car (that happened more than once). I also stop and go through a checklist in my head before I leave the house or grocery store or anyother place I may be leaving to make sure I didn't forget anything. All of this has become second nature now, It's easy to keep track of everything, and needless to say I'm not known as the "forgetful girl" anymore.
